New Kid on the Block

It's a new year for a new start and for a new job. You might be thinking, "Really? Again? I thought you just got a job." It's true. I am the new kid on the block once again and everything that goes with that except on a larger scale. I've joined a bigger health care team. I basically feel like a fish that moved from a pond to a lake.

The new kid on the block phase has many ongoing overlapping steps just to get grounded in this new place and routine. Learning the art of remembering what sometimes feels like a billion new names and the faces that go with those names. Getting lost all the time, but slowly finding my way. Soon I will be reviewing almost every nursing skill I ever learned and will be required to demonstrate competence before I can work independently. Someone will be checking every detail of my work and questioning every move I make. I'm ready to find out how this upcoming orientation experience will compare to my past orientation experiences and I'm looking forward to it.

First impressions of my new job are good so far, like with all the jobs I've previously had. I plan on throwing out all the stuff I've heard through word of mouth or by reputation. It's time to start from scratch. I will make up my own mind and find out for myself through time and experience if I'm meant to be at this job for the long run. I'm hoping I will want to stay and grow in this place. This time around, I'm keeping an open mind and hoping for the best. I'm optimistic. We'll see. :)
